Pediatrics is the branch of medicine concerned with the treatment of infants, children, and adolescents. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, in May of 2018 there were over 28,000 General Pediatricians in the United States. In 2016, it was estimated that the job market for Pediatricians would increase by 15.2% between 2016 and 2026. Pediatricians are doctors that specialize in the treatment of the physical, behavioral, and mental health of children from birth to the age of eighteen. Their education gives them the special skills needed to address children’s health issues. Pediatricians graduate from medical school and go through a three-year residency program in Pediatrics before being able to practice. They are board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Medicine and must meet the Board’s continuing education requirements.
