Montana is the fourth biggest state in area, but the third lowest in population density in the United States. The western part of the state is mountainous, while the eastern section is a plain. The western portion of the state is recognized for the mining of copper, molybdenum, and tungsten in Butte, Silver north of Missoula, gold in Bozeman, and platinum southwest of Billings. Zinc and lead are mined near Jefferson City, manganese east of Philipsburg, and vermiculite northwest of Missoula. Oil is found in the Northeast corner of Montana, natural gas in Bozeman, and coal southeast of Bozeman. Agriculture, in the eastern part of the state, is important to Montana’s economy. Cattle are raised in Bozeman, sheep west of Billings, wheat in Great Falls, and sugar beets in Billings.
