I have also served as a scientific advisor to several startup companies. As such, I am familiar with a broad range of drug development projects and the drug design principles that underlie such developments. A significant portion of my research has focused on the development of new synthetic methods and also on applications of synthetic organic chemistry to the preparation of complex organic compounds. I have also had significant experience in the discovery and development of small molecule therapeutics. My research led to the development of a highly economical and environmentally benign synthesis of paclitaxel. The drug is one of the most successful anticancer agents developed over the past fifty years. That synthesis has now been implemented in a commercial-scale synthesis of this anticancer agent. I also synthesized several compounds that are currently in clinical development as pharmaceuticals for treating certain genetic disorders.
